Maine Music Outreach (MMO) empowers high school musicians to make a difference in the lives of others. Selected sophomores and juniors travel to developing countries to work, teach and play their instruments alongside young musicians using music as a universal language.
Understanding people and cultures different from their own and learning how they can make an impact will ensure a life changing experience for each MMO participant.
2013 / 2014 MMO participant Hannah Ladd says it best:
“I wish I could do more for the people here. There is so much need, and the students just want to improve their playing. At times it can be overwhelming. In Haiti, there seems to be an unspoken rule: ‘Even if you have almost nothing to give, give a little bit.” I’m learning that every bit counts, no matter how small. I try to focus on what I’ve accomplished and forget about what I haven’t done. The important things are the smiles I’ve received, the people I’ve laughed with, and the memories I’ve made.”
