Maine Music Outreach (MMO) was founded in 2012 by Hugh Riddleberger. His vision was to empower high school musicians to make a difference in the lives of others. Through the efforts of MMO this vision has come to fruition and continues to thrive. By working alongside youths from developing countries and sharing a love of music, the MMO students gain a unique understanding of how through service and outreach they can make a difference.
In 2012 MMO sent four students from Lincoln Academy to take part in the Holy Trinity Music School in Cange. The trip was a pilot project and was a tremendous success. MMO sent a new group of students to Haiti in 2013. Because this was an extension of the original pilot program, several of the previous students took part for a second year.
The summer of 2014 brings an expansion to the MMO program. Students from Erskine Academy are included in the group and the trip will span a two week period. Two separate groups will each spend ten days at the music camp. They will play in bands and ensembles with their Haitian peers. MMO students will teach lessons to beginner students and help run sectional rehearsals. Everyone will participate in the concert at the end of the week.
